Mythical Beast Series

AQUAVITAE X SHINANOYA

This series uses the Ukiyo-e style to depict the appearance of each mythical beast. The word “Ukiyo” comes from the Buddhist term “worrying about the world” (うきよ), which refers to the various troubles in life, and later turned into the ups and downs of the secular world. This series presents each mythical beast in the basic creative form of “Musha-e”, one of the Ukiyo-e schools in the Edo period. Each mythical beast is partially dressed in armor from the Japanese Warring States period and equipped with traditional weapons, as a guardian god to protect each blessing.
